Hawa Mahal
Hawa Mahal which literally translates itself into “Palace of Winds”. It was built as a screen by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh so that the royal women could watch the happenings below. It is a quintessentially Rajasthani attraction- with latticed windows, filigree work and colored glass panes streaming in light. The view from the top offers a beautiful bird’s eye view of the city. The building has a bee hive structure with 953 latticed windows giving the impression of the “purdah”. Thus, royal ladies could see without being seen as per royal customs. You will be transported into a different era within the palace. Hawa Mahal is centrally located and thus you can plan your itinerary accordingly. Hawa Mahal is flanked by bazaars where you could lose yourself amidst the variety of colors and wares it has to offer. But the bazaars of Jaipur need separate attention for they are a wonder of their own.
